UNCOMMEN: Confronting Sinનમૂનો
An Intervention For Your Soul
If you thought Nathan got David's attention by telling him, "you are that man!", today he proceeds to have some intense fellowship with David by revealing what God has spoken to him.
First, Nathan proceeds to recount all that God has done for David and then informs him of what God is about to do to David because of his great sin.
I do feel a little sorry for David, for his sin is laid bare for you and me to read with a look of disproval on our faces. We may even shake our heads a time or two while reading it. However, our sin is no different from David. We are disobeying God and breaking commandments left and right.
As Nathan recounts God's punishment to come to David and his house, we see some very harsh judgment.
- The sword shall never depart from your house
- You have despised me
- I will raise up adversity against you from your own house
- I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor
- He shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun
"For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun." (V. 10)
In my mind, I can see Nathan pausing right here to let all that has been spoken sink in on David. I can see David staring off into the distance with tears in his eyes and softly speaking the words, "I have sinned against the Lord."
There are so many candy-coated churches out there that never speak of sin on Sunday. There is one here where I live. I happened to ask one of the many pastors why the lead pastor never speaks about or mentions the word "Sin" in his sermons. He told me that "they have an international reach, and they'd prefer to talk about what they are for rather than what they are against."
As you can see, we must identify sin and address it accordingly in our lives. Talking about sin is difficult, but God's judgment is even more difficult. If your pastor doesn't speak about sin, you need to find a new pastor. Your very soul may depend upon it.
