BE A BLESSING
Nehemiah had a prominent position in the Persian kingdom. However, when he heard about the situation and conditions of Jerusalem, he was very sad and brokenhearted. Nehemiah's reaction showed his deep concern for the state and the nation. He cried, mourned, fasted, and prayed. A deep sadness did not frustrate Nehemiah or bring despair. Upon hearing the misery of his brothers in Jerusalem, Nehemiah's first and most important step was to pray wholeheartedly. Prayer, for him, was the main thing before taking any actions because he prayed to God who was able and willing to help His people (Nehemiah 1: 5-6). God is able because He is the God of the universe of the Great and the Greatest heaven. He is willing because He is the God who holds the covenant and His faithfulness.
Not everyone has concern for others. Moreover, in this era, most people tend to be selfish. God is looking for the end-time Nehemiah who is willing to pray, is burdened and has a heart for others. Being burdened for others is not only having pity, but also a desire to love and take action. God calls us to be a blessing for others. Have we been moved to help our needy neighbors? They are waiting for our help.
"Carry each other's burdens..." Galatians 6: 2aNIV
