DAY 43 OF 50

Making Sense of it All

The performance of your company is a function of the interaction of corporate culture (practice) and human resources (people). If you find the right kind of people and plug them into the right culture, you will invariably get great performance.

As the readings this week have demonstrated, sustainable performance will come out of an environment where the vision is clearly defined and widely imbibed; where people get the right training and tools to do their jobs and can trust the system to treat and reward everyone fairly for the work that they do.

Critically, it is important to define the right metrics for measuring performance. While numbers are important, what is fundamentally important is what your people are becoming and not just what they are producing. “If anyone enters competitive games, he is not crowned unless he competes lawfully (fairly, according to the rules laid down).” (2 Timothy 2:5 AMPC)

To win the race for a market leader and lose the one for modeling Christ is like sacrificing the chance to win the war for the chance to win an inconsequential skirmish.

Why don't you spend some time aligning your thoughts on this with God's thoughts using the guide following:

  1. If God were evaluating performance, what indicators might He consider to be important?
  2. Prayerfully develop a working definition of success and write it down.
