Lesson One: God’s Attributes and How They Influence our Practice of Prayer
The following are some of the attributes of God, attitudes we can have.
- Psalm 90:2 - Eternal. I have the assurance that the intimacy I develop with God through prayer will last until eternity.
- Hebrews 13:8 - Unchanging. God’s dealing and revealed will in the past guide me in praying according to His will today.
- Jeremiah 23:23,24 - Omnipresent
- Psalm 139:1-5 - Omniscient. Things that I cannot fully express in words, I can quietly lift up to God and trust that He understands.
- Jeremiah 32:17 - Omnipresent. I boldly pray for the humanly `impossible’ things.
- Psalm 115:3 - Sovereign. I submit to however God pleases to answer my prayers.
- 1 John 3:1- Loving. I can express myself to God honestly without fear.
- Genesis 18:25 - Righteous. I can entreat Him to establish His righteousness over evil doings in this world.
- Hebrews 10:23 - Faithful. I don’t have to be anxious if God’s answer to my prayer seems to be delayed.
- 1 Peter 1:14-16 - Holy. I can entreat Him to establish His righteousness over evil doings in this world.
- All of the above! Often times I talk to God just to enjoy His presence and not to ask anything from Him.
