Just One Word: 5 Days To Invite Jesus Inનમૂનો
Splash
verb: to cause a liquid to spatter about especially with force; spray, sprinkle, slosh
One of the most beautiful places in the Pacific Northwest is the Oregon coast. I love to go there when storms are likely and the waves are wild. Walking along the beautiful stretch of beach is an adventure in avoiding the puddles and streams in the sand. It’s fun to jump over them, trying (but usually not succeeding) to keep my shoes dry.
Last time I was walking there, I noticed a family with two little girls bundled up in warm jackets and rain boots. They were not jumping over the deep parts like I was. They were jumping in them. Splashing water everywhere. And they were having the best time. Because splashing is pretty fun. Playing in the water, making it jump and dance and fly… and getting other people wet whether they like it or not.
In this verse, Paul is encouraging us to splash people—not with water, but with the love of Jesus. His love pours onto us like a waterfall. Graceful yet powerful, breathtaking and refreshing at the same time. He continually fills us to overflowing so that we can love others with this tangible, thoughtful, grace-filled love.
But we have to get into the water and move around in it to make it splash. We have to let him love us so we can share this love with others.
Let’s put on our boots and jump in.
Let’s talk to him, read about him, pray to him, worship him, and begin to truly experience his overwhelming love for us. Let’s spend time soaking him in, letting him soothe our broken places and our hurting parts. Let’s relax in the pool of his grace and creativity, trusting him to bring goodness and peace into our homes, our work, our relationships. Let’s stand under his downpour of endurance and strength when we just don’t feel loving at all. Only he can saturate us with the amount of love we need for ourselves and others.
Invite Him In
Thank Jesus for his love that never stops flowing. Ask him to help you feel it soaking deep into your soul, healing your heart, giving you strength and refreshment. Ask him to open your eyes to the people around you who need a splash of his love and grace. And then let him love people through you in amazing, creative, and tender ways. Don’t be afraid to get your feet wet! With Jesus, it’s going to be fun.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you for your abounding love. Please help me splash in it every day. Make your love for me overflow with abundance—more than enough to share with everyone in my life.
