Just One Word: 5 Days To Invite Jesus Inનમૂનો
Wreck
noun: the broken remains of something ruined; a person of broken constitution, health, or spirits
“She’s a wreck.”
“He’s just wrecked.”
I imagine a car after a terrible accident. Smashed metal, broken glass, turned the wrong way or upside down, wheels bent, tires flat, and steam coming out everywhere.
Have you ever described someone that way? Something must be really wrong for us to use that word. Someone we know must be experiencing an awful time. Their physical or emotional strength is failing. They are crushed, broken, unable to function.
We will probably all feel like this at some point. Many things in this life can damage our bodies and our spirits. The things we hope and pray for—the job, the relationship, the acceptance letter, the healing—don’t happen. The things we don’t expect—disease, rejection, loss, accidents, divorce, abuse—sometimes do.
The painful things in this life can wreck us to our core.
Jesus knows this pain. He was accused and taunted, violently beaten, and nailed to a cross to die. His pain was crushingly physical and deeply emotional, but most of all, it was spiritual. What really wrecked Jesus as he suffered through this brutal sacrifice was being separated from God. Feeling forsaken by his Father, his closest relationship, his whole world… It must have been excruciating.
Because of what he did on that cross, things are different for us. No matter what is happening in our lives, we don’t ever have to be completely wrecked in our souls. We don’t have to be without our God for one single second. In the times of feeling mentally or physically destroyed, we are still held by him, closer than ever. Because of his love for us, we will never have to endure the agony of being separated from the open arms of our Father, our closest friend. As Romans 8:39 promises, “Absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love.”
Invite Him In
When you feel like you’ve got nothing left, remember that you still have Jesus. Always. Absolutely nothing can separate you two. He won’t let anything wreck you completely. Bring to him the anger, fear, shakiness, questions, pain. He is right there to calm you and restore you physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Let him hold you close.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, only you can soothe my weary soul. When I feel like a wreck, I will quietly wait for you to come and rescue me. Thank you that no matter how broken I am, you can restore me and bring me back to wholeness in you.
