Kickstart A Conversation With Godનમૂનો
Quit Your Fangirling!
It is called fangirling. And apparently, you can do it even if you are a guy! It’s the over-the-top reaction of a fan to the mere mention or sighting of their favorite celebrity. These reactions often include shortness of breath, fainting, high-pitched noises, shaking, and awkward selfies. They sound like side effects to prescription medication!
And when you get two fangirls together, you can be sure that an endless amount of energy will be wasted on discussing and cyber-stalking their flavor of the month. Fangirling can take over your life. If a celebrity comes out in a blue dress, the next day every teenager in the modern world does the same. After all, how can you be original unless you copy everyone else?
There is a verse in the Psalms that says, "In You, Lord my God, I put my trust."
You may not admit to being a fangirl, or guy, but everyone follows someone. We all look up to role models who we set up as examples to be imitated. Who we choose to copy can actually change the course of our lives. Because it is not just the fashion of our role models that we replicate, but their attitude, goals, and behavior as well. We want to be like them in what they say and do. We give them our trust.
How many celebrities are actually selling us a dream that would turn into a nightmare if we really followed in their footsteps? How many stories do we hear of celebrities at the top of their game who then reveal how unhappy they are on the inside? Our thirst for being or becoming like the rich and famous may not be what we are looking for after all. We need to trust there is a better person to follow.
Jesus was undoubtedly the most famous person in history, yet he didn’t act like many of the celebrities we know today. Jesus showed us that life is about more than getting rich, famous, and making sure you are the most important or beautiful person at the party.
As you continue your conversation with God, why not see what you can find out about Jesus from the Bible. What if we put less trust in celebrities who we will probably never meet and started to trust in this Jesus who is definitely worth following?
