A Moment With Godનમૂનો
PRAY EARNESTLY
Being in agony, he prayed most earnestly. What do we do when we are in agony? We depend on people. Jesus was in agony. He took his disciples along with Him. There was no discussion. He just prayed. More earnestly. The intensity of His agony; sweat became blood.
He went through all of this not because of sin or His enemy, or because He was forced into it, but only because of His love for us and His willingness to go through it. Then why cry?
He is human and divine. Let’s look at this prayer for a moment.
- He prayed earnestly. A genuine prayer. A prayer that came from His heart. He was truthful in the presence of God with what He was going through. When we are in agony and in pain, let us be simple in our prayer, let us tell the Lord exactly what we are going through. It is not that the Lord does not know. It is just that He wants us to express our pain in the way we understand.
Let us not cover up our emotions. The only place where we can be ourselves and be open with our tears is at the feet of the Lord. All the other places - in the presence of family or friends, people have a tendency to exploit our tears.
- He prayed expectantly.
Father, if it is your will, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless not my will but yours be done. Jesus did not push His way but prayed expecting the Lord's will to be done. He was open to the will of God. When we go in prayer, we don't expect the Lord to do our will but expect Him to fulfill his way and give us the grace to obey His will.
- He prayed confidently. Look at this confidence in v47 and v48. The Lord rose up from prayer confidently and courageously to face the challenge. He never panicked nor withdrew. He faced them with courage. When we go in prayer, we need that confidence. v43: An angel appeared from heaven, strengthening Him.
- Prayer is a place of openness where we can be transparent with Him.
- Prayer can be a place of dependence where we can lean on Him.
- Prayer is a place of acceptance where we accept the will of God.
- Prayer is a place of confidence where we draw strength from Him. To the disciples, Jesus said: Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation. Are we facing any challenge? Let us remember not to waste time discussing about it. Let us bend our knees in prayer.
