Real Life

Jour 18 sur 25

When you read the book of Psalms, it’s important to remember that many of the words we read were written by a man who had some very high highs and some very low lows in his life. He wasn’t just an everyday man; he was David, king over all of Israel. David was known as a man after God’s own heart, which is pretty high praise. You would think that a man with that kind of reputation must have only made good decisions in his life, right? Wrong! If you’re familiar with the life of King David, you know that this wasn’t always the case.

While David’s love for God may have never wavered, his obedience was often a little off the mark. But this wasn’t a man who was oblivious to his shortcomings. David not only knew that he needed God in his life, he was desperate for Him. You can read that desperation in this Psalm today. David is crying out to God, asking to not be forsaken. He knew that, without God, his life would be meaningless. And I think the way David approached God here can be a cue for us, too!

What are some honest truths you want to say to God? Feel free to say them out loud today. As you do, remember that God is always listening. He knows our struggles and promises never to leave us in our time of need.
