Conditions of Discipleship

As you read through these chapters, it becomes more clear that following Jesus requires you becoming like Him. At this stage in Jesus ministry, He is more intense as He lays out the conditions for His followers. They (we) are to do, be and think in the same way that Jesus has been modeling for us.

We are to speak and act on his behalf using His authority. We are not to fear rejection. We are to be truth-filled and compassionate and willing to quietly, confidently and boldly trust God to provide, to intervene and to deliver. Being mindful always that it was God’s choice to reveal Himself to you, there will be endless opportunities to love others, including the not-so-lovable.

Our perspective and our strength will come not from the “busyness” in serving Him but from time spent at His feet worshipping. We will become so much more aware that our privilege as His disciples is to be part of … “thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” And in spite of the Satanic opposition, the power of God overcomes demonic forces and strips them of their weapons.

But we’re reminded not to seek after the miraculous and instead, as in the story of Jonah, to repent and seek after the one who gives forgiveness. Then God can keep us filled with His light so we can become a “floodlight” for Him so others can see.

And as you become aware of God using you, be careful not to get caught up with yourself and end up being religious and proud like the Pharisees.

Jesus wants humble, pure, “for real” disciples who are intentional in living out and carrying out the ministry Jesus can still do through you.

Are you that “for real” disciple committed to His call on your life and fully aware that “... apart from Him you can do nothing” but “…through Him you can do all things?”
