The Way to Follow Jesus According to the Gospel of Luke

DAY 11 OF 24

Day 11 - Luke 13

Consequences of Discipleship

There are fewer followers of Jesus than we think there are. Believing in Him as Savior is easy. Coming to Him in prayer asking for help is easy. Taking on the name “Christian” is easy.

But being a true follower of Jesus is not easy at all. Authentic followers start with repentance, i.e. a turning away from self, sin and worldly ambitions. As required by Jesus, His followers will be noticeably different from others. They will certainly be marked by love and compassion and service to others.

Beyond that, a follower of Jesus will be so dedicated, so abandoned, so preoccupied and so loyal to Jesus, that everything else and everyone else loses its grip on the follower’s life. But the heart of Jesus aches for those who won’t recognize who He is and why He came.

Those who do know and truly claim to be His followers, are willing to give up everything in total surrender. That is the cost and that is the privilege of following Jesus and the evidence that it is for real in your life.

Is that you? Are you His true disciple and in that place of total surrender? If not, why not, and what can you do to change it?
