Trust that God is faithful
Genesis 12.1-4 - ‘The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you … So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran..’
God comes alongside Abram, as he does to us all and effectively says, ‘the past is behind, now press on to the new. Even if the way is uncertain I am still God.’
The command to Abram was ‘Go. Move. Leave.’ In other words, activate your faith. Abram had a choice to partner with what God was saying to him, to leave behind all that was familiar, the old life, the old way of working. Abram knew that when he moved, God’s promises to him would be activated.
God promised Abram, “I will make you a great nation. I will bless you. Your name will be great. You will be a blessing.” God promised Abram He was on his side. Saying that He will ‘bless those who blessed him, and curse those who cursed him.’
God is the same yesterday today and forever. If he did it for Abram he will do it for you. You might not have it all figured out, where you will live, how you will have financial provision, who will stand beside you. But God who is faithful, promises to bless you.
As Abraham stepped out in faith, God moved to position him with favour, just as he promised he would. Hebrews 10:23 says “He who has promised is faithful.” We can take hold of that. We can tell God what His word says, He knows it’s written in there!
God gives the information to Abram and us on a need to know basis. He didn't reveal the full roadmap to Abram just as the Sat Nav in your car doesn’t give you every direction all at once. That would be confusing and potentially endanger your journey. No, the instruction comes one move at a time. God rarely gives us the feature length film download. No, he gives us the picture, the direction for the scene of our lives, one at a time.
Just as a parent would never give their baby a whole meal in one mouthful, God is a good father and He gives us the portion and the time to digest and then gives us the next spoonful. We trust the sat nav will give the instructions at the right time. We trust the director of the movies we watch to take us through the story in the right order. We trust our parents to feed us one digestible mouthful at a time. We must trust the God who is faithful will guide us and do as he promises.
Action point
Write out what God has promised he will do for you and as you step out and move declare his promise for the position he’s taking you into.
Prayer
God you are Jehovah Jireh, just as Abram called you, that is your character. Nothing is too hard for you. God I can depend on you to be faithful to me as you were to Abram. God help me to partner with you. To take your direction one step at a time and to go forward in all that you have called me to do. Knowing as it says in your word. You will bless me. My name will be blessed, and I will be a blessing to others.” In Jesus name, Amen
