Focus on the Right Thing
Exodus 3:10-11 – “So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
Reflection
Not long ago, my wife and I visited Egypt. While planning our trip, one option was to visit Mount Horeb, also called Mount Sinai, where Moses encountered God in the burning bush. I was eager to go, but the hotel rep explained the logistics: a 2–3 hour bus ride followed by a very, very *very* long hike to the mountain's peak. I wanted to say I wasn’t phased—but I was. And Sarah, reminding me we were there to relax, firmly decided against the idea!
This story reminded me of Moses' journey. After 40 years in Midian, he wasn’t just avoiding a mountain hike—he was avoiding his past, his failures, and a calling he believed he had ruined. Yet on Mount Horeb, God called him into the adventure of a lifetime, despite Moses' insecurities.
When God told Moses He would deliver Israel, Moses' focus was on his inadequacies: “Who am I?” But the real question was, “Who is God?” It wasn’t about Moses’ strength but God’s provision. The bush burned but wasn’t consumed—a symbol of God’s power sustaining the impossible.
Like Moses, we can get stuck focusing on our weaknesses or the difficulty of the "hike" God calls us to. But when God calls, He equips.
Action Point
Today, reflect on where your focus lies. Shift from questioning your ability to trusting in God’s power. He is the one who provides strength, wisdom, and resources to accomplish His purpose.
Prayer Point
Father, help me to focus on You, not my inadequacies. Just as Moses learned to trust in Your power, teach me to rely on You in every step of the journey. Thank You for calling me, not because of my ability but because of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
