Legacy of Faith- Hebrews 11Sample
“Walking with God”
“By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, ‘and was not found, because God had taken him’; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” —Hebrews 11:5
If you walk with wise men, you will be wise. It kind of sounds like something you would find in a fortune cookie, but that’s not the case. This is found in Proverbs 13:20! So, who I walk with has everything to do with my success in life. This scripture talks about walking with a wise man, but what about walking with God? We often place more confidence in man instead of grounding our faith in God.
Jesus tells us in the Gospel of Mark to “have faith in God.” I am not to have faith in a result or even faith in my own faith. My faith is in God! My confidence is found in God and His Word. In Hebrews 11:5, we see that Enoch walked with God. This speaks to me that faith is established in a relationship with God. Enoch walking with God is about intimacy and closeness. How can we have faith and confidence in God if we don’t choose to draw near or come close? If we look at every man or woman in scripture who did something great, they all walked with God. Whether we refer to Noah in Genesis 9:6 or Genesis 24:40 when Abraham says to his servant, “The Lord, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way.” So, great faith is established through walking with God. When I come close and draw near to the Word of God, I get to know Him! I get to know Him as more than just a Creator—I come to a place where I know Him on a personal level.
Know today that God wants to walk with you, and He wants to reveal Himself to you. Psalm 65:4 says, “Blessed is the man You (God) choose and cause to approach You, that he may dwell in Your courts. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, of Your holy temple.”So let us make the decision today to walk with Him, and you will be satisfied with His goodness.
About this Plan
Faith is more than a term—it’s essential to our Christian life. It’s not a sermon, denomination, or movement. Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11 remind us that "the just shall live by faith." Hebrews 11:1 also teaches, "Without faith, it is impossible to please Him." As children of God, we must cultivate and strengthen our faith. Over the next 14 days, Pastor Justin Bridges will lead us through Hebrews 11, showing us how to apply faith in our lives and how to live victoriously by faith, just like those heroes of faith who went before us.
