Legacy of Faith- Hebrews 11Sample
“Judge Him Faithful”
“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.” —Hebrews 11:11-12
As we continue to talk about a life of faith, we must always remind ourselves that our faith is established in God—His nature and His character—which we discover in His Word. From the Gospels, we know that all things are possible with God, even those things that man considers impossible. In verse 12, we see that Abraham’s promise of being the father of many nations was fulfilled. It tells us that Abraham, though only one man and as good as dead because of his age, fathered descendants as numerous as the stars of the sky.
Abraham was not the only person involved in fulfilling this promise; his wife Sarah was also part of the equation. In Romans 4, we are told that Abraham’s body was already “as good as dead” at a hundred years old, and it also notes that Sarah’s womb was barren. So, in the natural, this was an impossible situation. Once again, however, faith makes the impossible possible, because, in Hebrews 11, we learn that by faith, Sarah, apart from Abraham, received the strength to bring forth the promise. This happened because she judged Him (God) faithful who had made the promise.
When I think of the word “judged,” I imagine a judge sitting in a courtroom, delivering a verdict. I picture Sarah on that bench, taking a gavel, making a judgment, striking it down with a loud bang, and declaring, “I judge God faithfully.” For our faith to be established, grow, and become effective, it must be built upon the revelation of God’s faithfulness. Whatever you might be going through today, I believe that impossible situations can be made possible when we focus on and judge God as faithful in what He has promised us. As you go about today, think about, meditate on, and say throughout the day, “God, You are faithful.”
About this Plan
Faith is more than a term—it’s essential to our Christian life. It’s not a sermon, denomination, or movement. Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11 remind us that "the just shall live by faith." Hebrews 11:1 also teaches, "Without faith, it is impossible to please Him." As children of God, we must cultivate and strengthen our faith. Over the next 14 days, Pastor Justin Bridges will lead us through Hebrews 11, showing us how to apply faith in our lives and how to live victoriously by faith, just like those heroes of faith who went before us.
