Legacy of Faith- Hebrews 11Sample
“Seeing Him Who Is Invisible”
“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” —Hebrews 11:27
Have you ever been in a situation where everywhere you look, there seem to be obstacles or roadblocks? If you are in a challenging situation, does it look impossible? If so, there is an attitude of faith that we need to possess and hold onto. We must come to a place where we have a “no-quit” faith. As the founder of our ministry, Dr. Jerry Savelle, would say, “Having done all to stand, stand therefore.”
Often, it is easy to go with the flow of the world, but when it comes to the kingdom of God, we are going upstream against the current, where things can sometimes look impossible and seem difficult. Moses had to reach a point where, if he was going to fulfill his assignment, he would have to leave Egypt behind, regardless of what anyone said. But what made Moses strong? What caused him not to give up and remain steadfast when he was going against the culture of his time? He chose to focus on “Him who is invisible.” I believe we must hold to the same principle today because we are going in a different direction than the rest of our culture.
The Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 that when he was hard-pressed, perplexed, persecuted, or struck down, he declared he would not be crushed, not in despair, not forsaken, and not destroyed. How could he say that? In verses 16 to 18, he says, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” From Dr. Savelle I learned that the things we face “are subject to change.”
When we look at the faith of Moses, we see how he became immovable because he chose to see God in the midst of his situation. This allowed him to follow through with the instructions he was given. This set the groundwork for God instituting the Passover, which was the prelude to God’s people being set free and was a type and shadow of Jesus bringing us deliverance. In Hebrews 11:29, we see that Moses’ relationship with the Invisible One enabled him to stand before the obstacle of the Red Sea. He was able to lift the rod, leading the children of Israel to the promised land on dry ground and drowning the enemy behind them.
So today, our key to this life of faith is to see God in the midst of any situation we are facing, knowing that He will bring us through and will deal with the enemy as we move forward into our promise.
About this Plan
Faith is more than a term—it’s essential to our Christian life. It’s not a sermon, denomination, or movement. Romans 1:17 and Galatians 3:11 remind us that "the just shall live by faith." Hebrews 11:1 also teaches, "Without faith, it is impossible to please Him." As children of God, we must cultivate and strengthen our faith. Over the next 14 days, Pastor Justin Bridges will lead us through Hebrews 11, showing us how to apply faith in our lives and how to live victoriously by faith, just like those heroes of faith who went before us.
