Following Christ

DAY 3 OF 12

Following Doesn’t Mean Knowing

Following Jesus is exciting because most often we won’t have all the details. Look at the heroes of our faith just to be inspired and to feel less alone. Abraham and Sarah were called out of their land into the unknown while Noah was asked to prepare for a flood by building a huge ark to house his family and animals. Nehemiah felt led to rebuild the broken walls of his far-off homeland while the prophets wrote letters of impending disaster at the hands of enemies yet unseen. None of them had the whole picture. They only had the snippets that God allowed them to see while they had to implicitly trust God for the rest of it. It took step-by-step strides of going where God led them even when the next step looked dangerously perilous.

It’s the same for us today as we follow Jesus. As we keep stepping out in obedience to His word and voice, we find that He reveals more and more to us.

If you are looking for a clear and complete blueprint for your life after following Jesus, you may be disappointed because there is no such document. What you do have is His word, which is almost like a love letter from His heart to yours. As you begin to read His word and commit it to your heart, you will find that it lights your path as you walk the journey of faith. His word will keep you from falling while also leading you along the way that God has got destined for you. Could you wander off this path? Yes, you could but you can be assured that we have a good shepherd who goes after His sheep that wander off. You are never too far gone for your shepherd to find you and point you back in the direction.

Declaration: I may not know the details of my future, but my God does!
