Following Christ

DAY 7 OF 12

The One We Follow Determines Where We Go

The most important thing about following is the one WHO we follow. The miracle is not in our following Him but in who He is. We follow Jesus, the Son of God, God in the flesh. When He chose His first disciples, He showed Himself to them as a multiplier of bread, stiller of storms, treader of water, deliverer, healer and teacher to name a few. Jesus also called Himself various things in order for people to understand why they desperately needed Him although they didn’t know it yet. He said He fulfilled the law, was the bread of heaven, the living water, the door, the good shepherd, the light of the world, the way, the truth and the life.

Today, we follow the same God but we know Him to be so much more than what the disciples knew Him to be. He is the coming King and Judge of all the earth. He is the Lion and the Lamb.

He is the Saviour and Redeemer of all the world. He is the Firstborn from the dead and Victor over sin and death. He is the everlasting Father and the Spirit of truth. He is our constant companion who dwells within us, bringing conviction, counsel and comfort.

Each of us tend to lean in to the character of God that we most relate to and are most comfortable with but this journey of following Christ is exciting because we get to experience God in all His amazing vastness!

He is spectacular in holiness.

He is delightfully unpredictable.

He is massively powerful.

He is infinitely creative.

He is wildly inventive in His salvation strategies and in His restorative measures.

He cannot be restrained, controlled or confined by our tiny brains and limited imaginations.

He is endlessly loving of the world He created.

He is unrelenting in His pursuit of those who have wandered away from Him.

The great command that Jesus gave us was derived originally from Deuteronomy which says, “Hear O Israel, The Lord thy God is one.” It’s so easy to compartmentalize God based on our limited experience of Him into just our healer or provider but He is so much more than our minds could ever conceive. This great, multifaceted, incredibly awesome God is One. As a follower of Jesus, you get to experience all of Him in every season of your life. In one season, you may be anticipating Him to show up as a Healer but He will probably show up as a Restorer. You may need a Provider but you will discover His potential to Redeem every situation. We sometimes experience disappointment in our journey when God didn't show up as we expected. Maybe it’s time you ask God to open your spiritual eyes to show you just how He is moving currently in your life. He keeps His promise to never leave you nor forsake you.

Declaration: I know that God is working in my life.

About this Plan

Following Christ

This Bible plan is perfect for you if you have been wondering how to actually follow Jesus every day. Saying yes to Jesus is the first step of course. What follows though, is a lifelong journey of repeatedly saying yes and keeping in step with Him.
