Growing in Truth – For KidsSample
Read Psalm 25:5
Think
You might think that because you’re still growing, God isn’t paying as much attention to you as He is to adults. But that’s not true! In the Bible, there was a little boy named David who was in charge of his father’s sheep. David didn’t complain about having to watch the sheep or let the sheep run wild. Instead of waiting to grow up and become something great, he used his shepherding time wisely to be the best shepherd he could be. He used all that free time in the fields to observe God’s beautiful creation, write songs, and talk with God often. David asked the Lord to lead him and teach him truth. Because he followed Jesus starting from the time he was a little boy—he grew up and earned the nickname, “a man after God’s own heart.” God chose David to be something amazing—David was crowned king of Israel.
Talk
Ask yourself: What is the longest you have ever had to wait for something?
Ask a grownup: What is the longest you have ever had to wait for something, and what did you do or learn while you were waiting?
Discuss together: What is the one thing we can each do today (and every day this week) that will help us walk in truth?
Pray
Dear Jesus, thank you for giving me the Bible that helps me know your truth. Help me to know it so deep in my heart that it’s always in my mind as well. Your truth gives me freedom, and I want to walk in your truth every minute today. Please help me to remember that you are the truth, the life and the way. Thank you for giving us the gift of the Holy Spirit that will help me know what a wise choice is and what is not. Make me brave enough to make wise choices that honor you. Amen.
