Enough

DAY 20 OF 28

Sometimes, we care about someone so much, we just want to give them the world. Think about it — is there a friend you really wish you could just spoil with gifts simply because they're having a hard time right now? Or maybe you really wish you could show up for someone who lives pretty far from you.

We may always have that one person in our lives we wish we could do more for, but just don't have the means to do so. When writing to the church in Corinth, Paul encourages them that if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. That means when we act out of a genuine place of selflessness, it doesn't matter the amount we give, but the intention behind our actions.

When we don't have the right words or tangible ways to show up for others, our willingness to support them speaks volumes. In fact, it's that willingness that just might spark some creative ways to support them when we feel like there isn't anything we can do.

Today's passage speaks to the idea that there will be times when we have more than enough to give and all the right words to share. In a way, it makes up for the times when we feel all we have is a willingness to show up. It reminds us that supporting others matters most when we truly want to.

About this Plan

Enough

For the next four weeks, we’ll look at how the earliest followers of Jesus created a new kind of community as God's family. Through their example, we’ll learn that there is enough when we share what we have — and if there isn’t enough, God provides. We'll also learn that our actions can speak when words aren’t enough and that God’s love is always enough.
