In the Star Wars movies, we see some of the biggest plot twists of all time. One of them revolves around Anakin Skywalker. Anakin was an incredible Jedi who had a promising future. When fear of losing what was most dear to him crept in, he decided to turn to the "dark side." He became consumed with the insatiable desire for security and ended up losing everything. His identity, relationships, and future were changed because he put a high priority on power.
If you haven't watched the movies, you'll have to check them out to see how the whole story unfolds. There will be no more spoilers here!
While most people won't have a drastic shift to the "dark side," some people's desire for power, popularity, or security often drive them to make choices that are harmful to themselves and those around them. You may have been hurt by someone who broke a promise to you because they became consumed with elevating themselves. This can be incredibly hurtful and may make you wonder if it is worth sticking to your own values and principles.
When we choose to neglect who — and what — is important to us, we not only hurt others, but we end up hurting ourselves. Guilt and shame can be consuming forces that eat us up inside, and that is not what God wants for us.
Even though people may disappoint us, God will give us the courage to keep walking forward on the path that is in front of us. The peace we will experience by keeping a clear conscience is well worth any sacrifices we may need to make along the way.

About this Plan
For the next four weeks, we’ll look at how the earliest followers of Jesus created a new kind of community as God's family. Through their example, we’ll learn that there is enough when we share what we have — and if there isn’t enough, God provides. We'll also learn that our actions can speak when words aren’t enough and that God’s love is always enough.
