The Jesus Bible Reading PlanSample
A GUARANTEED KINGDOM
David’s security, as king over the people of Israel, proved to be in question throughout this book. In the natural order of things, it would not be uncommon for the son of the deceased king to ascend to the throne. However, that was not God’s plan. David’s kingdom was guaranteed and never in question from the perspective of God’s sovereign oversight of his life.
Jesus was born as a proclaimed king, one whose reign would be without end, the one for whom Israel longed. Zechariah 9:9 states, “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Although it seemed that his rule was insecure to his disciples at times, Jesus’ kingdom was promised. Even today, when believers look around them and feel that the world has gone awry, God’s plan of final redemption has not changed. He is working all things to his glory and moving all things toward a final conclusion when Jesus will have final victory over all ungodliness (Rev 21:6 – 8). His is a kingdom that is guaranteed.
Jesus, in this broken, lost world that seems to be so far removed from your truths, remind me that you are still the King and that your kingdom plans are still alive and well. Amen.
