How Should We Pray—Is There A Special Way?

When we pray, we’re talking to God. We shouldn’t use it as a chance to show off for others (Matthew 6:5). And even though we should show God respect, He doesn’t need us to make it into a fancy ceremony or say special words (Matthew 6:7-8). He just wants to hear what we have to say.

When Jesus was on earth, He gave us an example for how we should pray. This example is called the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13). The Lord’s Prayer shows us that our prayers should include three things: 1) praise and worship (telling God how great He is), 2) requests (asking God for what we need or what others need), and 3) confession (asking God to forgive our sins).

We don’t have to pray in a special place, either. God can hear us anywhere and at any time (Matthew 6:6). He will listen to us whenever we choose to talk to Him.
