What's In A Name: I AMEjemplo

God as the Great “I AM” is capable of doing all that He wants at all times. That’s an incredible thing to think about – something that is truly life changing for those of us who believe. It’s comforting to know that no matter what adversity we face or what circumstances surround us God will always be there to overcome those things. His power is immeasurable. His wisdom is incomparable. There is truly nobody and nothing that will ever come close or compare to Him.

What’s even MORE powerful than realizing just how much God can do (and how limitless He really is) is recognizing that even with all that power God still WANTS to be present in our lives. He doesn’t need us. He doesn’t rely on us for his strength or look to us to build up His ego, value or worth. But He WANTS us. Why? Because He LOVES us!

In Matthew 28:20, Jesus (God in the flesh) says, “…I am with you always, to the very end of the age”.

Much of the New Testament was written in Greek. So, we can’t say that the “I AM” statement here is the same Hebrew word we’ve been talking about the past few days (it’s not). Originally the “I AM” here would have read “ego eimi”. “Eimi” means “to be, exist, happen or be present”; so…it’s CLOSE. The more powerful part of this statement though is what comes next.

The word “with” in Matthew 28:20 is actually the Greek word “Meta”. Recognize that from anywhere in particular? When Facebook re-branded, they called themselves “Meta”. Since then there’s been all kinds of conversation around the Meta-verse, virtual reality, and the future.

“Meta” communicates the idea of accompaniment; being “among or in union with” others. So, for Facebook, it’s a great name for a company trying to build an alternate reality where people can be “among or in union with” people in a virtual world.

For us as followers of Jesus, Him being “Meta” with us is completely life changing. The Great “I AM” God is not only powerful and limitless, but deeply personally present with us. He knows us. He knows YOU!

Whatever you’re facing right now, remember: The “Meta” presence of the Great I AM means that those things are not impossible. He is with you “always to the very end of the age”!
