I LOVE this passage: what a vivid picture of Jesus' gentle pursuit of people who thought they would never be invited to the party. Jesus didn't just invite them to the party, He went to them! Jesus constantly shows up in places that a Jewish Rabbi shouldn't go.

It is mind-blowing to think that the Son of God left heaven to condescend to humanity and then went to margins. He didn't hang out in palaces and temples all the time (although he did spend a significant amount of time in the Temple). Jesus went to the least of the least, the last of the lost, tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners, to share the good news of his Kingdom breaking into our world and changing everything!

Jesus shows up. And he calls us to do the same.
