Focusing on the brief section about the prophetess Anna, it is interesting to see her reaction when she sees Jesus.

Anna had clearly prepared for the days of the Messiah by studying the Old Testament prophecies that spoke about the One who would save Israel. Rather than using the fact that she had long been a widow to keep her down, she instead gave her life to praying and fasting.

For a Jew to claim that this child is the Messiah, which the whole of Israel had been waiting for, is no joke. Through her constant life of prayer and devotion, Anna knew by just looking at the baby’s face that he is the one to bring redemption. 

Today we can learn from Anna that the things this life might throw at us do not have to define who we are. We can remember that God is faithful to his promises.
