Family.fit: In God We Live and MoveMuestra
The marketplace of gods and ideas
Family.fit is a family-based devotion time to do together. It involves being active with movements and fun, followed by exploring the Bible and discussion.
In this series of five days we look at Acts 17. These verses of the Bible record a speech given by the Apostle Paul 2,000 years ago in Athens.
Before that, begin with a game to get moving!
1. Get active
Knee tag
Compete in pairs. Try to touch your opponent's knees as many times as you can while you protect your own with your hands and body position. After 60 seconds change partners and repeat.
Now try the game with three or four people.
See video of the game:
2. Rest and talk
- What is something you would love to have the money to buy?
In our Bible story, Paul was in Athens. He had seen what the city was like and had conversations with many people in this "marketplace of ideas." There were many statues of gods. He was asked by some local thinkers to explain his views of life and God. Here’s what he said.
v 23b “I am going to tell you about this ‘unknown god.’”
3. Read the Bible passage
Acts 17:22-23
4. Discuss
- What are some of the things people worship today instead of God?
- What does it mean to be religious? What does it look like?
Chat to God: Thank you Lord that you reveal yourself. You are not an unknown god. There is no other true God but you.
Tomorrow we’ll see how God is at the center of life. If God authored life, as the Bible claims, what does He say about it?
