God's Big World and His Big Love for YouSample
“Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and are thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.” Matthew 6:28b-30a NLT
The rafflesia flower is the largest flower in the world. While many flowers are small enough to easily fit in your hand, rafflesia are about the same size as a hula hoop. They also smell like rotten meat in order to attract helpful insects. Yuck!
In Matthew 6, Jesus tells his followers to look at the flowers growing in the field and see the amazingly beautiful and, in the case of the rafflesia, stinky ways that God has created them! Flowers don’t need to work or worry about their lives. They bloom where God has planted them, and God cares for them.
If God cares for flowers, Jesus says he will definitely care for you—his best creation and the one he chose to make in his image.
Next time you feel worried and wonder if everything will be okay, remember Jesus’s words about flowers and know that you are way more special to God than them. Since he cares for the flowers of the field, even the smelly rafflesia, you can trust that will surely care for you.
