God's Big World and His Big Love for YouSample
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?” Job 38:4-5 ESV
XY Canis Majoris is one of the largest stars. Its name means “The Great Dog,” and it is so big that 9.3 billion of our suns could fit inside it!
The Milky Way Galaxy is even larger than XY Canis Majoris. It’s the galaxy that our solar system is in, and it is filled with 100 to 400 billion stars. Does it make your brain hurt to think about something being so big that 400 billion stars could fit inside it?
And the Milky Way Galaxy isn’t even the biggest thing in space that we know of!
In Job 38:4-5, God tells a man named Job about creating the universe and making everything the exact size that he wanted. He tells Job that he “stretched the line upon [the Earth],” just like you might stretch a ruler across something to measure it. Can you imagine how big of a ruler God would need to measure the entire Earth?
God is bigger than the Earth, XY Canis Majoris, the Milky Way Galaxy, and the entire universe. He has to be bigger because he’s the one who designed, created, and measured it all. And even though he is so big, he still sees, and knows, and loves you!
