Precious Moments That Count For EternitySample
The Lord Has My Back
The day was oppressively hot. The little boy longed for some respite. An ice cream would end all his troubles. He waited impatiently for his father to return home from work. When he did, he badgered him to go get him the treat. Looking at his eager face, the father forgot his tiredness, and went out immediately to get a lovely cone of tri-scoop ice cream – just as his beloved son had demanded. The boy whooped in delight and grabbed it, thanking his father profusely. The father, gladdened to see the joy on his son’s face, went in to freshen up, imagining him relishing his treat.
However, when he came out again, he saw his son in tears, with the ice cream melting down his arms, dripping on the floor. “What happened son? Why aren’t you eating your ice cream? Why are you crying?”
“Oh, Daddy, I love the ice cream. But I am crying because it will get over soon. And I will feel hot again.”
Don’t we also behave in the same way? We badger our Heavenly Father to get us through an affliction. But when we get our victory we fail to enjoy it, because we begin to worry that the affliction will return.
Though He has brought me out of every worrisome situation, it is sometimes tempting to wonder, ‘What if that situation comes back? What if this victory is temporary?’
But the Lord has promised to bring me out of any problem and for it to never return. Over the years, He has taught me to lay my troubles at His feet, and carry on living my life with joy, to savor every victory because the battle is His and the same affliction will not strike twice!
Prayer
Thank You Lord, for Your promise, that trouble will not come back. Teach me to enjoy life, knowing that no plot against Your child will prosper. Amen.
