Precious Moments That Count For Eternity

DAY 243 OF 366

honor Brings Life and Abundance

The word ‘honor’ means ‘to esteem, respect and give reverence to another person’. It also means to highly value that person, irrespective of the level or position that person has in our life or society. We live in an age and a society, where honoring people in authority, be it parents, teachers, bosses, pastors and so many others, including God, is either absent or based on conditions. Selfishly, we choose to honor or respect others only if we get something in return.
The second most important commandment that God gave the nation of Israel, besides loving Him wholeheartedly, was to honor one’s parents, and this commandment is the only one that comes with a promise of long life and well-being to those who abide by it.
God, who is the giver of life, desires that we learn and implement this important principle of honoring people above us – those in authority, people placed by God to teach, guide and direct our footsteps in this journey called ‘life’. Leviticus 19:32 encourages us to honor even the aged – people ahead of us.
Friends, we may have amazing talents that the world can see and appreciate, but it is futile if we have no character to sustain these gifts. honoring others plays a huge role in building good character.
Proverbs 15:33 tells us that before honor is humility. Humbling oneself at all times causes people to honor and respect us too. God will definitely take us to a higher level in our relationship with Him for choosing humility and honoring others.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me always to honor the people You have placed in authority over me. I thank You that You will bless me with a long and fruitful life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
