My Darkest Moment

DAY 11 OF 11

Remember your darkest moment—the hour when despair seemed to swallow you like a grave. Though you may have been dead in your sins, God brought you from darkness to light. Your life, imperfect as it is, is a story of God’s redeeming goodness.

As believers, we know…trouble will come. Grief, pain, and loss abound. But, when suffering pierces our hearts, we hold fast to knowing—Jesus has overcome it all. We have the hope of Christ anchoring our souls, promising that heartache won’t last forever. Jesus is the light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overwhelm it.

When Jesus received word that His friend, Lazarus, was fatally ill, He knew death would not have the last word. Lazarus’ body had been decaying in the tomb for four days by the time Jesus arrived. Greeted with the heavy sorrow and disappointment of Lazarus’ sisters, Jesus’ soul was in anguish. Though He knew the end from the beginning, He shared their pain. Jesus wept.

Into the dark, cave-like tomb, His voice resounded, “Lazarus, come out.” The dead man arose, stepping out of the tomb into the light of day. His sisters’ tears of mourning became shouts of joy. The funeral song became a song of God’s victory over death, and many believed.

Jesus could have gone to Lazarus sooner and healed his illness. Instead, he chose to make Lazarus a living demonstration of the resurrected life that Jesus offers us all. He proved to everyone that He was God—the one with the power to overturn even death.

Hebrews 4:15 says—we don’t have a high priest unable to empathize with our weaknesses. He understands us.

When Jesus wept at Lazarus’ grave, He wept for us all. He joined in the groaning of a grief-stricken world that's tasted death. The mother who loses her child, the addict imprisoned by poison, the wealthy professional desperate for meaning, the hands too weak to toil for survival, the widows, orphans, and all who walk in darkness — He wept the tears of the whole world, and He felt it all.

Do you hear Jesus’ life-giving words echoing in your own heart? He rolled away the stone of your tomb and met you in your decay. He beckoned you by name—out of the grave, into His light.

Let your heart, like His, be pierced with compassion for all who still dwell in shadows.

Tell your story so that many believe and find hope in the light of Jesus Christ. What has stopped you from telling your story sooner? Pause and let God remove any lingering fears that would hinder you from sharing.

Lord, would You show me what’s holding me back?

Thank You, God, that You will give me the right words at the right time. Go before me and use my story to guide many to believe in You! Amen.
