Overcome Porn: The 40 Day Challenge

DAY 28 OF 40

Pornography ripped Tray and Melody Lovvorn’s marriage apart, ending it in divorce. But as both of them went through the recovery process (Tray for his porn use, and Melody for the betrayal), they realized one thing: their divorce just wasn’t working out. Once again happily married, today they share their story of why accountability was, and still is, vital.

Many people don't want to take the step of getting accountability software on their computers and other devices. But for many, accountability software makes all the sense in the world. It’s a constant reminder to think twice before clicking and it kills the strength of temptation.

Here are some other reasons people love accountability software:

1. It catches small sins before they become big sins. When you know you’ll be held accountable you stop to question your choices.

“There’s no opportunity for sin to build up.” – Pastor Dan Deyling

2. There’s no opportunity to Be dishonest. When you feel ashamed of yourself, its hard to make the choice to be brutally honest with someone else. But what if you only had to make the choice once?

“This takes it [accountability] to another level…There’s no opportunity for me to be dishonest.” – Trip Lee

3. It’s a vehicle to receive love from others. When others know the specifics of your temptations and sin patterns, they can more easily care for, pray for, and counsel you through the changes you long to make.

Using Covenant Eyes is “an act of love from brother to brother” – D.A. Carson

4. It builds and rebuilds trust in a marriage. “It provided the help that we needed and the resource we needed to rebuild the trust in our relationship.” – Veronica

5. It reminds you that God is watching. It reminds me “that it’s not just God looking at me but another brother or sister in Christ—which reminds me that God is looking at me.” – Brandon

Reflection

  • How does accountability help a Christian “walk in the light?”
  • If you already use Covenant Eyes, how have you seen accountability help you grow in one of these areas?
  • If you don’t use Covenant Eyes, what is holding you back? Do any of these make you afraid to make yourself known?
