Standing in Christ
Joshua 7:1, 12
“The Israelites acted unfaithfully in regard to the devoted things; Achan…took some of them. So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel…That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.”
Why are holiness and purity so important when we join God in his mission?
Our sin puts us off side with God, and it is his presence that we require in the battles and discernment of ministry. Our focus too quickly shifts to strategy and the enemy when we should be worshiping our King and allowing him to examine our lives and prepare us for our small part in his battles. We stand in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus is our sufficiency. However, that does not excuse willful, known sin. Humility, confession and a healthy fear of the Lord allows us to stand firm in the battle and apply the victory that Christ won on the cross for us, and for all people.
Lord Jesus, you are faithful even when I am faithless. I humble myself before you and invite your examination of my heart, that there would be no wicked way within me. Thank you for your forgiveness, victory and strength to stand.
