The Light of Life
John 8:12, 36
“…I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life…if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
Light and freedom come from knowing and following Jesus. It’s amazing how much effort is invested to search for light and freedom apart from Jesus. Jesus reminds us that light and freedom begin on the inside of us as we experience his life-giving presence. However, we are not born this way. We are born walking in darkness and living with bondages and proclivities toward sin. As Jesus said, we are slaves to sin and to whatever masters us. The freeing power of Jesus alone can change our desire to sin and give us new desires to follow and live for Him. To be free of the bondage of sin is to shine in this generation as lights in the darkness.
Lord Jesus, you are the light of the world. We have never needed you more than we do today.
