Honor and Humility
Esther 6:6
“…‘What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?’ Now Haman thought to himself, ‘Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?’”
Luke 18:14
“…For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Seeking our own honor is a trap that Haman and many others have fallen into. Jesus says that if we exalt ourselves, we will be humbled. God loves humility, but the world doesn’t understand it. The fact that humility is attractive in western society is a testament to the transforming influence of Jesus. There is also Jesus’ promise that when we humble ourselves, God honors us or exalts us. The choice is ours. The pursuit of humility can become a prideful journey in itself. Rather, to humble ourselves, we seek to serve God and others. We encourage and praise others, while sharing the praise we receive with our team, and the God we serve.
Father, I humble myself before you. Be glorified in my life this day.
