DAY 283 OF 365

Resisting Opposition

Nehemiah 4:8-10
“They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night…Meanwhile, the people in Judah said, ‘The strength of the laborers is giving out, and there is so much rubble…’”

When we give ourselves to building God’s kingdom by faith, we will face opposition, both from without and from within. The threats, taunts and schemes of the enemy were a constant pressure upon Nehemiah and the rebuilders. Prayer is the only way to resist anxious thoughts and fears. The authority we have in Christ gives us the weapon of resistance – prayer. We can now not only pray to God, but also resist the enemy (James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8, 9). The discouragement of the laborers, whose focus was the piles of rubble in front of them and not the vision of a completed wall, was an additional challenge. What we focus on determines our thoughts and speech. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus!

I resist anxiety and fear today in the name of Jesus, and in you Lord I put my hope.
