Gap Standers
Ezekiel 22:30
“I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.”
Revelation 9:20
“The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons…”
God’s heart of mercy is revealed even in the midst of His judgment of sin. He is looking for those who will stand before Him in the gap - the gap between a holy God and sinful men - the gap between our actions and our good intentions.
Will God find “gap standers” in our generation?
Even in the last day’s judgment, God gives the nations opportunities to repent. Someone will need to communicate that message to the nations in the midst of judgment, a gap stander. God desires the spiritual walls of salvation and holiness to be built up around each family and community as a defense against temptation and sin - walls that resist the influence of sin, not walls that keep out people or limit our capacity to love our neighbors.
Where are the gap standers?
Lord Jesus, thank you that you stood in the gap for me and my sin. Give me that same heart for others that you have.
