DAY 218 OF 365

Joy Despite Judgments

Habakkuk 3:17-19
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.”

There is always good fruit that comes from God’s judgment of sin and rebellion. The deeds that Habakkuk wants renewed in his day are God’s judgment on the sinfulness of nations.

Are we jealous for God’s glory enough to pray those kind of prayers?

God’s judgment of sin was accomplished in Christ Jesus, yet we know that John’s Revelation speaks of God’s end-time judgments of the nations. Though the fig tree doesn’t bud and there are no grapes – because of God’s judgment of sin amongst the nations – will we still rejoice in God’s goodness and faithfulness?

Will we tread on the heights of worship despite the pain of enduring God’s discipline?

Lord Jesus, your judgments are just and true. Your glory is my delight and I choose to praise you regardless of my circumstances.
