The Values of the House
2 Samuel 3:1
“The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.”
1 Chronicles 12:23, 32
“These are the numbers of the men armed for battle who came to David at Hebron to turn Saul’s kingdom over to him, as the Lord had said…men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do…”
The contrast in leadership DNA and culture between the “house of Saul” and the “house of David” was significant.
How would people describe the values and culture of your house?
David’s house increased in strength because people voluntarily chose to leave one house and join another, often at great personal cost. They understood the times, they knew the promises of God and they were leaders who made decisions based on values rather than comfort.
What are we willing to risk for the values and promises we believe in?
Lord Jesus, I choose to live for the values of your house. Give me courage to understand the times and to lead through knowledge and obedience.
