Be The LightSample
Nowhere to Hide
It’s funny. I’m a grown man, a husband, and the father of two children under age 4. Ever since I was a child I have loved to play hide and seek. You read that right, I still love a good game of hide and seek.
My wife and I are teaching the game to our daughter. We’re trying to teach her to
1) Find a place that’s out of sight,
and
2) Be quiet.
But as fun as the game is to play, hiding from God is, as my toddler would put it, “big no-no-no.”
In the book of Isaiah, the prophet is commissioned by God to speak to the people of Israel.
In chapter 2, Isaiah repeats statements about living out the ways of God publicly. At one point it actually says, “Let us walk in the light.”
God’s light is an exposing kind of light: nothing, and no one, can hide from God. And while it might be intimidating to know that God knows everything about you, consider this too: while nothing is hidden from God, and He knows all of your deepest secrets, He loves you. There is freedom in the light, freedom in knowing that you are accepted, as you are. If nothing is hidden, then you don’t need to hide.
Stop trying to hide from God. He knows where you are. Instead, walk in the light.
1. THINK ABOUT IT! Have you let Jesus’ revealing light fully into your life? Are there things you’ve tried to hide?
2. REFLECT! How can you “walk in the light” today?
3. PRAY! Father, you welcome me into the light, help me to walk in it.
