LIVING BEYOND: My Control 

No matter where I am or who I’m with, I will choose to honor God with my life. 

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where everything happening around you seemed to be completely out of your control? Whether it was the people in your class or a family situation that seemed way out of hand, we have all had times when we’ve asked God, “how did I get here?” 

There will be multiple times in life where we have no control of the people we’re around or the environments we’re in, but God still calls us to represent Jesus wherever we go. Uncomfortable environments aren't an excuse to conform to our surroundings, but an opportunity to stand firm in who God calls us to be. 

Romans 12:2 says,  “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is.” We will always have the desire to fit in and belong, but we have to choose how we will respond to them.  When we choose to compromise our convictions and walk outside of God’s will for our lives, it will only lead to emptiness and disappointment. .

 The truth of God’s Word isn’t a standard we were ever expected to perfect, but it is one we are called to pursue. 

The Bible says that when we are obedient to God and honor Him with our lives, we will be blessed.  Even though we may not be able to control the environment we’re in, we can control how we carry ourselves in the midst of those environments. 

No matter where you find yourself today, know that who you are is not defined by what you’re around. We can live out who God has called us to be despite the circumstances around us.  God gives us the choice to honor Him with our lives even when we are in environments outside of our control.
