Gospel Hope: Devotions From Time of GraceSample
What If I Lose My Faith?
Love stories will never die out in the movies and on stage. Not only do we all yearn to be loved, but there is also always the undercurrent of fear that the relationship is fleeting, always at risk, and that makes for great drama. We all know what it is like to be let down by someone you long for, and we also know our own fickleness – we ourselves might lose interest in the other person.
What do you tell a young person who is afraid fully to trust God, afraid not so much that God will leave her but that she might leave God? Frankly, by asking that question the young person is telling me that she is safe. Only believers can worry that they might lose their most precious possession. Believers also know that faith comes by hearing the message of Christ, and so they can take preemptive action against Satan’s whispers and bribes.
We are indeed often gullible fools, and that’s why next to Christ Himself our best allies on earth are Christian family members, our Christian congregation, and a circle of Christian friends who will encourage and mentor us. And though our love for God may wobble, His love for us never will. “God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’” (Hebrews 13:5).
You’re in good hands with your heavenly Father.
