Daily Encouragementنموونە
Abram and Lot parted at Abram’s suggestion. There are times when, even with saints it is better to separate than to squabble. Abram faced the reality of the situation, mindful of his relationship to Lot and of their testimony to the pagan world around, for “the Canaanites and the Perizzites were also living in the land at that time” (Gen. 13:17).
Two other passages of Scripture come to mind as we observe Abram lifting up his eyes and receiving this all-embracing promise from the Lord. The first was spoken by the Son of God himself: “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted” (Matt. 23:12). The second is a declaration by the Psalmist: “He shall choose our inheritance for us” (Ps. 47:4, AV).
To approach all problems of relationships and possessions with true wisdom, we need a spirit of meekness in our hearts and this kind of prayer upon our lips:
I dare not choose my lot;
I would not if I might;
Choose Thou for me, my God,
So shall I walk aright.
Not mine, not mine the choice,
In things or great or small
Be though my Guide, my strength,
My wisdom and my all.
(Horatius Bonar)
