DAY 38 OF 366

Here is a man drawing near to God: “Moses entered the Tent of Meeting to speak with the Lord.” It is true that he was an outstanding servant of God, but for all that he was just a man like the rest of us, and so he had to come to God, as we must come, by way of the altar and the acceptable sacrifice: “Since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus . . . let us draw near to God . . . ” (Heb. 10:19-21).

Here is a man hearing the voice of God: “he heard the voice speaking to him.” And we too may hear that voice for, “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son” (Heb. 1:1-2). The voice still comes from the “Majestic Glory” (2 Pet. 1:17) and he who speaks is seated on the throne which is itself the mercy-seat, “the throne of grace” (Heb. 4:16).

Here is a man coming to speak with God and being led to listen to him: “When Moses entered the Tent of Meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him.” How blessed are those who come from the place of prayer having heard the voice!
