Daily Encouragement

DAY 41 OF 366

This was Moses’ immediate reaction to the criticism of Korah and his group. It was an attack on a divinely appointed ministry within the holy community, and as such it was rebellion against God: “It is against the Lord that you and all your followers have banded together” (Num. 16:11).

Korah still has his followers, even in the Church of God today. Many a God-appointed ministry is subjected to opposition from those who are not satisfied with their place among the Lord’s people but look with critical and covetous eyes upon the ministry of others. All who face such criticism should refrain from seeking to vindicate themselves and should instead follow the example of Moses: “When Moses heard this, he fell face down.” “I care very little if I am judged by you . . . It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes” (1 Cor. 4:3-5). The Apostle was not on his face, but his attitude was the same as that of Moses.

Sometimes the Lord comes more quickly than his servants expect and deals with such opposition as decisively as he did in the case of the criticism which Moses and Aaron faced. A response similar to theirs is called for: “And they fell face down” (Num. 16:45).
