Daily Encouragement

We are to be encouragers of one another on a daily basis. Every believer should be something of a Barnabas. Mutual encouragement is part of what Christian fellowship is all about. “Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other” (Mal. 3:16), and we can be sure they did not just talk about the weather! There are some godly souls whose mere presence is an encouragement. Andrew Murray said Spencer Walton “was a man of so much heart and feeling that he could not be present without being felt.” Such people speak “naturally” about God and move with “ease” to the place of prayer. These elements are vital for effective encouragement.

The purpose of encouraging one another is that we may hold on - “We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly on until the end the confidence we had at first” (Heb. 3:14) - and go on - “since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it (Heb. 4:1). The purpose of encouragement is to ensure that our hearts respond to God’s word and to his promises “Today.” Godly encouragement keeps the heart tender, giving protection from unbelief and sin’s deceiving power. Let us encourage one another today.
