Daily Encouragement

DAY 140 OF 366

The appeal here, and in the beautiful poetry which follows, is to remember the Creator while we are young, before death comes and we stand before our judge. “For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil” (verse 14).

Mackinase Bgwerudza was a faithful minister of the gospel in Zimbabwe. The best years of his life were given to the translation of the Bible into his mother tongue. He named one of his sons Agape! The boy showed much promise as he entered his teenage years, particularly as an artist. Then he was struck down by a virulent fever and died. His body was brought from the city over a hundred miles away to his father’s home among the mountains on the border with Mozambique. His school companions gathered at the family home, two or three grass-roofed huts on the mountainside. Together with other members of the community they made an imposing crowd in that limited space. Agape’s father himself conducted the funeral service. In spite of his grief. This was the text: “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth . . . ” None who stood by the freshly dug grave that day will ever forget the power of those words.
