Binge Free God's Way

DAY 5 OF 7

Day 5

Trust the Process

Let ‘s get real, can we? Losing weight is not easy. If it was, you would have done it a long time ago. Or maybe you have done it several times, but you just couldn’t keep the weight off. If you want to really make this a lifestyle change, you are going to have to do the hard work and trust the process. It’s also going to take intentional work on your end to heal your mind and renew it with God’s Word. Negative thoughts will come. Your mind will get tired and play tricks on you. What about the days you step on the scale and you thought for sure you should have lost weight because you ate so good the day before? These are all the old behaviors you are going to have to power through to make this a lifestyle change and not just another fad diet.

This morning I had one of those days. I ate so good yesterday so I hopped on the scale this morning feeling confident that I would be down about two pounds. Nope. Not at all. The scale was down 0.2 to be exact. Immediately my mind started to drift into negative thoughts. See, you can’t lose weight. You will always be this size. Why are you even trying?

You know that voice? Let’s call her Negative Nancy. Sorry in advance if your name is Nancy. I knew I needed to combat this voice, so I went into my office and sat on my office chair and had a little pep talk with myself. Why are you doing this? Are you going to trust the process this time or quit?

I then pulled out my journal and iPhone and started searching Bible scriptures on trust. I wrote down two or three scriptures to help me believe in the process. Then I started speaking affirmations over myself: "You can do hard things. My body will get to a healthy weight. I will trust the process this time even if I am not getting the results that I want."

If I’m going to win the battle this time, I’m going to have to fight. And so are you! During your journey, pay close attention to your old patterns and thought processes that could force you to give up before you get your victory.
