Communicate with God
by Paul Dennis
1 Thessalonians 5:17-18
“Pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Ready:
Communication is essential in any relationship, and prayer is vital to a healthy Christian life. Some may ask, “Why pray if God is sovereign?” The Bible, in 1 John 5:14, teaches that prayer releases God’s blessings in the life of a believer. Prayer is a wonderful privilege that allows us to be involved in God’s work. Imagine a parent taking a child hunting. The parent prepares extra supplies and sets everything up for the child’s success, though they don’t need the child to complete the hunt. It’s a joy to include them. Similarly, God doesn’t need us but loves to involve us in His kingdom work. What a privilege!
Aim:
Read Philippians 4:6 and 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18.
Fire:
Set aside dedicated, distraction-free time each day to pray. Plan your prayer time and make a list of topics. Consider this acronym for guidance:
- F– Forgiveness: Spend time confessing and repenting.
- I– Intercession: Pray for others.
- S– Submit: Submit to God’s will in your life.
- H– Honor: Give God glory, praise, and thanksgiving.
Follow-Through:
Luke 11:1-4 and 1 John 5:14-15.
